FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The USA South has announced their Athletes of the Week. The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during that week.
Jasmine Stephens has been named the USA South Lacrosse Player of the Week. The Greensboro, North Carolina sophomore midfielder tallied 11 goals with 15 draw controls and one groundball as the Monarchs posted a 2-1 record last week. In a 19-4 loss to Washington (MD), Stephens scored one goal with one groundball and a team-high two draw controls. In a 22-14 win over USA South foe Agnes Scott, Stephens scored three times with a game-high six draw controls. Finally, in an 18-3 victory over USA South foe LaGrange, Stephens contributed team-highs of seven goals and seven draw controls.
Tyler Younger was recognized as the USA South Rookie Baseball Player of the Week. The freshman first baseman from Chatham, Virginia hit .462 (6-for-13) with four RBI, three runs scored, one double, one home run, one walk and one sacrifice hit in a 3-1 week for the Monarchs. In a 16-3 win over Penn St.-Abington, Younger was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run scored and one home run. In a 4-3 victory over Virginia Wesleyan, Younger was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one run batted in. Finally, in a two-game split with USA South rival Shenandoah, Younger was a combined 2-for-6 with one run scored, one run batted in, one double, one walk and one sacrifice fly.
