Monarchs Fall to Shenandoah

Team recognized breast cancer survivors with "Cradle for Life"

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist University lacrosse team hosted their first annual "Cradle for Life" game on Sunday in recognition of breast cancer survivors. The Monarchs put up a fight against Shenandoah, but the Hornets won 17-7.

Methodist's Alexa Veeder opened the scoring with a quick goal in 53 seconds. Shenandoah came back with four straight goals to move ahead 4-1 in the first ten minutes. Jasmine Stephens stopped the run to cut the lead to two, but the Hornets went ahead 7-3. Veeder scored back-to-back goals to move within two, but Shenandoah held the 8-5 lead at halftime.

The first ten minutes of the second half had the Monarchs in contention trailing by two, but the Hornets shut down the Methodist offense in the final 23 minutes as they scored eight straight.

Veeder and Stephens scored three a piece for Methodist while Kate Kaus and Abby Harmon each added one goal. Lindsey Cosgray tied the program record with 21 saves in goal.

Sara Mucciaro led the Hornets with four goals. Tori Beasley made 10 stops in goal.

The Monarchs will host Washington College (Md.) on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
