FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The USA South has announced their Athletes of the Week. The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during that week.
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Sean Willingham were recognized for the second straight week.
Kaitlin Flaherty has been named the USA South Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The League City, Texas junior posted a 3-0 record at both the number-one singles and doubles positions last week for the Monarchs. In singles play, Flaherty earned wins over the top players from Peace, Shenandoah and Agnes Scott. In doubles action, Flaherty teamed with
Katherine Meindl to defeat the top duos from Peace, Shenandoah and Agnes Scott.
Sean Willingham was selected as the USA South Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week. The Garner, North Carolina freshman recorded win in his only appearance for the Monarchs last week. In an 11-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan, Willingham did not allow a run in the seven innings he pitched. He allowed just two hits with three walks and 13 strikeouts in the win.
