FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The entire Methodist baseball team and staff were disappointed when their season ended without a bid to the NCAA tournament, but four players have been able to continue playing baseball through the Morehead City Marlins in the Coastal Plain League.
Rising seniors
Shawn Lovette,
Brian Inghram and
Tripp Lancaster along with junior
Trey Such were called on to compete for the Marlins in the absence of some NCAA Division I players finishing their seasons. The quartet has helped the team get off to a 5-1 start. All four players have been major contributors to the program's early success with Inghram leading the team with a .400 batting average.
"This has been an unforgettable experience," Lancaster said. "It is as close to professional ball as some will ever get and it has been a blast!"
The Marlins will travel to Fayetteville's hometown team, the Swampdogs on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. start. Tickets start at just $6 for adults. [
