FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist alum and former volunteer assistant,
Spencer Martin has rejoined the Monarchs' baseball program as assistant coach.
"I am really excited to have a former player back who knows the system after getting experience elsewhere," head coach
Tom Austin said. "He was an outstanding student, an outstanding pitcher and I think he will bring the same accountability to his coaching habits."
A native of Virginia Beach, Va., Martin was a four-year letter winner for the Monarchs as a pitcher and undergraduate assistant coach. He currently holds the school record for consecutive strikeouts, striking out 11 straight batters in 2005.
"I'm very excited to be back," Martin said. "I want to thank Coach Austin and Coach McEvoy for the opportunity and hope to continue the success Methodist baseball has had in the past while helping to lead the team back to an NCAA regional appearance."
Most recently Martin served as the pitching coach for the 2010 KIT League champion Tidewater Pirates. He also served as pitching coach for Penn State Greater Allegheny this spring and previously coached the Albany Dutchman of the NYCBL.
Martin graduated from Methodist with honors in 2008 receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. In 2009, Martin worked as a volunteer assistant for the Monarchs helping the team to a 27-13 record. His resume includes working numerous college baseball camps, showcases, and clinics throughout the Mid-Atlantic States.
