BOONE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's and women's track & field teams kicked off their 2012-13 indoor  season at Appalachian State over the weekend.
 
Competing against primarily NCAA Div. I and II programs, several Monarchs performed well in their opening meet. One the men's side, highlights included Joshua Harris' 12th-place finish in the shot put, with a heave of 13.11 meters. Reginald Scales finished sixth overall in the 55m dash with a time of 6.61, while Roosevelt Colson was 16th in 6.75.
 
Nathaniel Gabler added a Top-10 finish, coming in 8th in the mile in 5:15.24 and in the 300m, Matthew Hopkins took fourth (37.28) and Dylan Proctor was ninth with a time of 38.10. Sydney Machokoto was 12th in the 3000m, posting a time of 10:18.60.
 
On the women's side, Latrice Williams posted a time of 52.56 in the 300m and Keneshia Bigelow was 12th overall in the 800m with a time of 2:34.39.
 
Sasha DeSousa posted a mark of 8.22 meters in the shot put and also ran a time of 8.59 in the 55m.
 
Both teams have one more meet before the holiday break, taking part in the Holiday Open at Christopher Newport next Saturday.
