FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Methodist University has been recognized as an Outstanding Organization by Special Olympics North Carolina amongst the 17 branches in the Cape Fear Area. For more than five years, Methodist has been the official venue for local competitions while student-athletes, faculty and staff have volunteered their time at the events. Special Olympics and Methodist University have developed a supportive partnership over the years.
Nominated by Local Coordinator, Jamie Scruggins, Methodist University was selected based on its ability to not just host events, but to become a part of the events. The facilities and volunteers are provided free of charge while members of the campus community have gone on to develop relationships with the Special Olympics organization outside of the three local events.
Methodist Associate Director of Athletics and Fayetteville-Cumberland County Excecutive Committee Member, DeeDee Jarman, was on hand to accept the award. Jarman was also nominated for Volunteer of the Year for her coordination of the efforts at Methodist.
