FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The USA South has announced their Athletes of the Week.  The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during that week.

Mark Jernigan has been named the USA South Rookie of the Week.  The Greensboro, North Carolina freshman forward performed well despite the Monarch's 1-2 record during the holiday break. In the three games, Jernigan averaged 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. In a 69-56 loss to Randolph-Macon, Jernigan contributed four points, four rebounds and two assists. In a 93-83 loss to Piedmont, Jernigan scored a team-high 21 points and added four rebounds. Finally, in an 84-75 win over LaGrange, Jernigan scored a game-high 27 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists.
