Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - In the second day of the Guilford College Classic, the Methodist men's soccer team picked up their first win with a 17-0 shutout over Gallaudet University.
Methodist junior
Brion Kelly scored the Monarchs' (1-2) first goal on a free kick from just outside the box in the third minute of the game. He followed up with an assist to freshman
Scott Smith just a few minutes later and the Monarchs went ahead 2-0. With four goals in the first ten minutes of play, Methodist took a commanding lead and maintained an 8-0 advantage at halftime.
The Monarchs' scoring continued in the second half with nine additional goals including two from freshman Dane Rawson to give him four on the day. The Monarchs defense held Gallaudet (0-3) without a shot through the entire 90 minutes of play.
Rawson led the Monarchs with four goals while Smith added three and junior
Darren Wilson scored two goals. Freshman
Steve Harris notched a goal with three assists while Kelly and freshman
Jason Speaker added a goal and two assists a piece. Senior
Bret Brennan scored a goal with an assist while senior Tom Blum, sophomore
Jeff Fallier and freshmen
Shane Davis,
Joshua Eustis, and Stuart Bryant each scored a goal.
Gallaudet's goalkeeper Poloko Qobose made 17 saves for the Bison.
The Monarchs will be back in action at Mount Olive on Wednesday at 7 pm.
