Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. - The Methodist men's soccer team dropped a 5-2 contest to Oglethorpe in the second day of the Sonny Carter Invitational hosted by Emory University. Oglethorpe won the tournament while Methodist will finish second or third depending on the final result of Rowan versus Emory.
Oglethorpe took the early lead with a volley in the seventh minute. Methodist's
Eirik Nordseth tied the game in the 20th minute after
Eric McGinnis took the ball to the end line and crossed to the middle for Nordseth to finish. The Petrels regained the lead with a penalty kick just before halftime.
Oglethorpe extended their lead with two quick goals early in the second half. Mcginnis scored his fourth goal in four games with a shot deflected off of a Petrel defender. Oglethorpe came right back with their fifth goal to lead 5-2. The Monarchs had three more shots during the remainder of the game, but the Petrels finished with the 5-2 win.
Kyle Beach had two saves for the Monarchs while Frank Petersen made a save for Oglethorpe.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they host North Park University at 11 a.m.
