FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's soccer team battled with nationally ranked North Park University to earn a 1-1 tie on Saturday.
Methodist dominated the first half out shooting North Park 9-2. In the 23rd minute, Methodist's Nahom Hargwoon broke loose on the right side and blasted a shot that careemed off of the cross bar, but the Monarchs kept battling. The game was scoreless at halftime and it was North Park who got on the board first. Sigurd Pryser lofted a cross from the left side for Effy Restrepo to flick on past the Methodist defense and Jonas Pettersson finished it to go ahead 1-0.
The Monarchs kept pushing and
Chris Ryan took a free kick from 40 yards out and drove it into the 18-yard box for
Darren Wilson to score the game-tying goal in the 81st minute. Both teams had opportunities late in the game, but regulation finished with the game tied 1-1. Due to the full day of games, the teams did not play overtime.
Kyle Beach made five saves for Methodist and Tim Ahlberg had four stops for North Park.
Methodist will be back in action on Sunday at 3 p.m. when they host 2010 NCAA finalist Lynchburg College.
