FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist men's tennis team wrapped up play at the Methodist 2-of-3 Men's Challenge on Sunday afternoon.
On the final day of play, the Monarchs had one team still in action as the duo of
Teal Howard and
Kurt Robinson had advanced to the semifinal round of the consolation draw. In the semis, Howard and Robinson fell to Villalta and Castillo of Pfeiffer dropping the doubles points, 8-1, then falling 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-2 in singles.
The finals of the consolation draw were not contested as both teams were from Pfeiffer.
In the main draw, Mt. Olive's tandem of Bub and Mariano successfully defended their 2011 title as the knocked off Wernecke and Hunter of Pfeiffer. Bub and Mariano took the doubles point, 8-4, and easily won the “A” singles point, 6-2, 6-0, before rallying in “B” singles for a 6-7, 6-4, 10-4 win.
With the conclusion of play, the Monarchs are now done with the fall portion of their season.
