HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Methodist men's tennis team opened the fall portion of its schedule with a 9-0 win over Hampden-Sydney on Sunday afternoon.
After the Monarchs' morning match with Roanoke was cancelled due to rain, MU breezed past the Tigers as each singles match was decided in straight sets.
At No. 1 doubles juniors
Duncan Miller and
Greg Patterson knocked off H-SC's Mountcastle and Dodson, 8-2. At No. 2 doubles it was senior
Robert Clayton and freshman
Taylor Buchholz defeating King/Bowers, 8-1, while sophomore
Dillon Sullivan and junior
Lawrence Salmon knocked off Flanagan/Turkovic, 8-3.
Miller added a win at No. 1 singles over King, 6-1, 6-2, Buchholz won at No. 2 singles over Dodson, 6-0, 6-0 and Patterson captured the No. 3 flight, 6-0, 6-1 over Mountcastle.
Freshman
Teal Howard won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0, Sullivan captured No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Clayton completed the Monarchs' dominance with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Wilson.
MU returns to the court on Sept. 28 when they begin play in the ITA Southeast Regional.
