FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's tennis team had six players honored on the USA South All-Conference teams as announced by the league on Thursday afternoon.
Duncan Miller's selection to the first team highlighted the Monarchs' selections, the most in a single season for a Methodist team since the conference did away with flighted selections in 2005.
Taylor Buchholz and
Greg Patterson were each named to the all-conference second team and
Teal Howard,
Lawrence Salmon and Dillon Sulivan were tabbed to the honorable mention squad.
This season, Miller has posted a 10-5 record in singles, while playing all of this matches at the No. 1 spot. In doubles, he has posted an overall record of 12-3, including an 11-3 mark with Buchholz while playing at both Nos. 1 and 2.
Buchholz has an overall record of 15-3 in doubles and his 15 wins in singles (15-2), primarily at No. 2, is the highest win total on the team. Patterson joined Buchholz on the second team by virtue of his 12-3 singles record and a 12-2 doubles record.
Howard is 14-3 in singles play, having seen the majority of his time at No. 4, and has posted a record of 4-0 in limited doubles action. Salmon and Sullivan, who have paired to go 9-6 in doubles, have singles records of 13-2 and 14-0, respectively. Salmon has seen the majority of his singles action at No. 6, while Sullivan has played 13 of his 14 singles matches in the No. 5 spot.
Additionally,
Rob Clayton, is 14-2 in doubles action, was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
N.C. Wesleyan College swept the individual awards as Artsiom Prostak was named Player of the Year, Johan Ljungdahl earned Rookie of the Year accolades while Worth Richardson collected Coach of the Year honors.
Methodist, which opened the season winning each of its first 16 matches, earned the No.3 seed for the upcoming USA South Tournament and will begin play on Friday morning when it takes on sixth-seeded Ferrum at 9:00 am in Rocky Mount, N.C.
