Women's Golf "B" Team Takes Seventh at Chick–fil–A Invitational

ROME, Ga.  Competing in the team's final event of the calendar year, the Methodist women's golf team sent its "B" side to Georgia to compete in the Chick–fil–A invitational. The two–round event concluded on Tuesday, with the Monarchs earning a seventh–place tie.

Location: Stonebridge Golf Course (Par 73, 5,708); Rome, Georgia
Top teams: 1 – Randolph–Macon (295-307–602, +18), 2 – Huntingdon (314-318­–632, +48), 3 – Sewanee (322-316­–638, +54)
Top individuals: 1 – Erin Donovan, Piedmont (72-71–143, ­–3), 2 – Morgan Mussatt, Randolph–Macon (73-73–146, E), 3 – Alexis Haller, Randolph–Macon (72-75–147, +1)

THE NUMBERS
  • Senior Chloe Kraus and freshman Cloe Rich both closed out the tournament in 15th place (out of 82 golfers) with a score of 13–over­–par. In similar fashion, each member of the duo shot six strokes over par on Monday, then seven strokes over par during Tuesday's round. Each recorded three birdies over the course of two rounds, while Rich was the only Monarch to sink an eagle, needing just three strokes on the Par 5 Hole 14 in the second round.
  • Megan Kestner carded two birdies during her 10–over–par effort on Monday. On Tuesday, she saw just one birdie while taking twelve strokes over par to complete the round, bringing her two–day total to +22.
  • Anna Wicklum shot 18 strokes over par on day one, not scoring for the team. She showed significant improvement in the second round, scoring par or better on 12 holes to finish at seven–over–par on the day. Her two–day score of +25 was fourth best on the team.
  • Elizabeth Franchetti finished the first round at 14 strokes over par, collecting two birdies along the way. She birdied one of those holes again on Tuesday, but finished the round at 16 strokes over par to bring her two–round total to +30.
 
UP NEXT
Done with competitions for the Fall semester, the team will have a few months off while setting its sights on the Spring season.
