STAUNTON, Va. - Methodist jumped out to an early lead and cruised to an 8-0 victory at Mary Baldwin College.  The Monarchs move to 8-5 this season and 5-0 in the USA South while the Squirrels fall to 0-13 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Sophomore Lindsey Oliphant started the scoring in the ninth minute with her first collegiate goal on the assist from sophomore Kasey Nichols.  Junior Whitney Roberson tallied her first of four goals on a breakaway in the 27th minute for the 2-0 lead.  Just 29 seconds later, freshman Christine Ellington fed junior Michelle Anderson for a goal to the left corner.  Freshman Danielle Minichello scored on an open goal in the 37th minute and Roberson came right back with a goal over top of the goalkeeper in the 38th minute.  Anderson had a shot saved that bounced back to Roberson who finished it off for the sixth goal in the 44th minute.  Minichello passed one off to Roberson to score another one in the 44th minute for the 7-0 halftime lead.

The Monarchs had 16 shots in the second half but the Mary Baldwin goalkeeper Nicole Croman had 11 saves to hold Methodist scoreless until the 87th minute when sophomore Kelly Orpin scored her first collegiate goal off the deflection of Nichols' shot.

Croman finished with 16 saves for the Squirrels while freshman Sara Altman picked up the complete game shutout with three saves.

Methodist will travel to Salem College Friday for a 4 pm kickoff.
