The 2026 season will mark the 20th year that the Methodist women's basketball team will host a Play 4Kay event, aimed to raise money for women's cancers.
In addition, the Monarch women's soccer and football teams will host events to help with fundraising efforts this year. Proceeds from these events will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation: Friends of the Cancer Center

Event Description and Details
Since 2007 the Methodist University Physician Assistant Program has embarked on many activities to benefit the healthcare community of Fayetteville and beyond. As another year approaches, the MU Physician Assistant has partnered with the MU Women’s Basketball Program to host the Play4K Cancer Awareness 5K Run/Walk, which will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 9:00 am on the campus of Methodist University. Since February 2006, the women’s basketball program, in conjunction with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), hosts a Cancer Awareness, or ‘Play 4Kay’ game to benefit the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Our donation will not only assist with cancer research but also provide local funding for the uninsured to receive free mammograms. All proceeds from the run will be donated to the Play4Kay event.
The race will begin and end at Monarch Stadium on the campus of Methodist University at 9:00 am. Registration will open at 7:30. All participants who sign up in advance of the race are guaranteed a t-shirt. T-shirts are not guaranteed for day-of registrations. This run/walk is a fun run/walk, not a qualifier for the Boston Marathon!
Advance Registration Fees (online registration ends Friday, February 7th):
MU Faculty, Staff, and Students: $25
Non-MU Participants: $30
Day-of registrations: add $5 to the above costs and t-shirt and medal are not guaranteed.
