FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 73-46 win over Salem in their first game of the Methodist Cross Creek InnKeeper Turkey Shootout.
The Monarchs (2-1) opened the game with a 19-4 lead capped off by a 3-pointer from senior
Amanda Underwood. Methodist continued to extend their lead over the Spirits (2-5) balancing their inside and outside offensive attack. Junior
Michaela Myers helped the Monarchs to their largest lead of the half with another 3-pointer at 36-12. Methodist closed the half with a 40-19 lead.
Methodist jumped on Salem early in the second half. Multiple players contributed while the Monarchs increased their lead to as many as 31 points. Methodist finished with the 73-46 victory.
Underwood led the team with 15 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore
Adriana Wilson and freshman
Jordan Tyson had 12 points a piece. Myers also finished in double figures with 10 points.
In the first game of the Turkey Shootout, the Apprentice School defeated the College of Notre Dame (Md.) 60-50. Methodist will face Apprentice Sunday at 4 pm in the Championship Game.
