ASHLAND, Va. - The Methodist men's basketball team won their first game in the Briggs Elliott December Classic over Mary Washington.
The first 10 minutes of the game had both teams exchanging the lead before sophomore
Joshua Crumpler hit a 3-pointer to give Methodist a 15-14 lead. The Monarchs went on to take a seven point lead at halftime.
Methodist opened the second half on a 13-3 run capped off by a three point play by junior
Tyler Sigman. Mary Washington came back and cut the lead to four points with 2:21 to go in the game, but senior #A.B. Lehmann# sank a 3-pointer to give the Monarchs a 60-53 lead. Methodist finished 7-for-9 from the free throw line in the final 75 seconds to take the 71-61 win.
Sigman led the Monarchs with 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Lehmann added 16 points and freshman
Mark Jernigan scored 14 points.
Methodist will play host Randolph-Macon Monday at 8 pm.
