WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team traveled to Salem College Tuesday night and used a strong second half to defeat the Spirits 64-45.
The Monarchs (4-1) scored the first basket and jumped out to a 12 point lead on a jumper from junior
Michaela Myers. Salem (3-6) responded with a basket at the other end, but senior
Zan Messer drained a 3-pointer to give Methodist the 22-9 lead. The Monarchs missed their next 13 shots allowing Salem to close the lead to three points at halftime.
Salem kept the game close early in the second half, but with Methodist ahead 34-33, the Monarchs went on a 14-0 run to extend their lead. Methodist kept battling and finished with the 64-45 victory.
Sophomore
Adriana Wilson led the team with 16 points while senior
Dezzire Gilliard had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Monarchs will have off for the next 10 days before traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo. for games against California - Santa Cruz and Colorado College Dec. 13-14.
