ATLANTA, GA - Emory snuck a goal in early in the first half and then late in the second half to earn the 2-0 victory over the Methodist Monarchs. The Monarchs start the season 1-1 while Emory moves to 2-0 this season.

Both teams had not had a legitimate shot on goal until Emory's Talia Dweck snuck a through ball into Shayna Brown to finish for the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. The Monarchs had their first solid chance with 19:27 gone in the first half when junior Michelle Anderson put a header on frame. Emory maintained most of the possession, but the Monarchs' defense held strong. Junior Whitney Roberson tried to slot a ball through the Emory defense with a little more than ten minutes to go in the half, but the Eagles' goalkeeper Sarah Wilkerson came out to cut it off.

In the second half, the Monarchs had a couple of close chances with a free kick from sophomore Kelly Orpin and a chance just wide from Roberson, but Emory sealed the deal with another goal with less than three minutes to play.

Methodist goalkeeper Kasey Nichols made three stops while Wilkerson had one save.

The Monarchs will compete in the Roanoke College Tournament next weekend.
