FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team opened up USA South conference action with a 7-0 win over Peace College Wednesday afternoon. The Monarchs move to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the USA South this season while Peace drops to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Freshman Danielle Minichello opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a goal on the assist from freshman Jillian Reed. Freshman Lauren Colenda gave the Monarchs a 2-0 lead just before halftime after stealing the ball from the defense and firing a goal to the left corner.
Methodist opened the floodgates in the second half with five more goals. Sophomore Amber Jurkovac had a shot in the in the 48th minute that Peace could not handle and ended up with an own goal. Freshman Allie Jennings scored the fourth Methodist goal followed up with a goal from junior Whitney Roberson. Colenda then fed Roberson for the 6-0 lead. Sophomore Lindsey Oliphant found a wide open Catherine Ramsay for the final goal of the game in the 87th minute of play.
Methodist out shot Peace 38-1 with the Monarchs' goalkeeper Kasey Nichols finishing with the save. Peace goalkeeper Sherry Revels had 17 saves for the Pacers.
The Monarchs will host Ferrum on Saturday at 2 pm.
