FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Maryville Scots regained the lead midway through the first half and went on to earn the 88-72 win over the Methodist men's basketball team Sunday afternoon.
The Scots (8-6) jumped out to an early 16-10 lead, but Methodist sophomore
Travis Fulp tied the game at 20 with 10:30 to go in the half. Freshman
Devonne Blackshear gave the Monarchs the lead with a jumper. Methodist (4-8) regained the lead until five minutes remaining when Maryville's Eryk Watson grabbed a steal and layup. The Scots outscored Methodist 10-3 in the final five minutes to take a 38-30 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.
Maryville came out strong in the second half and scored eight unanswered points before Methodist sophomore
Leland Jones scored a layup after the steal from junior
Tyler Sigman. The Scots extended their lead to as many as 24 points with 3:50 to go in the game. The Monarchs made a couple of late baskets, but Maryville finished with the 88-72 victory.
Senior #A.B. Lehmann
led the team with 15 points while Jones and senior Alex Meadows# had 10 points a piece. Sophomore
Marcus Connor led the team with 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.
The Monarchs will open USA South Conference play on Tuesday by hosting Greensboro at 7:30 pm.
