FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women lost their first USA South Conference game of the season to the Greensboro Pride Tuesday night 86-65.
After exchanging baskets early, the Pride (8-1, 2-0) took an early nine point lead at 13-4. Methodist (6-3, 1-1) came back and closed the gap to three points at 22-19 with 7:19 to go in the half. The Pride responded with a 17-0 run to take control of the game. Greensboro held the 48-27 lead at halftime.
The Pride led by as many as 33 in the second half, but the Monarchs came back and started hitting shots. Sophomore
Adriana Wilson scored eight points in the half while junior
Michaela Myers knocked down two 3-pointers and a jumper for eight of her own. Methodist tied the Pride in the second half with 38 points a piece, but the Pride finished with the 86-65 win.
Senior
Dezzire Gilliard and sophomore
Dawn Sanderson each had 13 points from the post while Gilliard paced the Monarchs with 11 rebounds. Wilson finished with 12 points and Myers added 11.
Dione Eccles led the Pride with 24 points.
The Monarchs will host Meredith on Thursday at 7 pm.
