DEMOREST, Ga. - In the Monarchs' (3-7) first game back after the holidays, the Piedmont Lions (4-8) avenged an earlier loss this season with a 93-83 victory.
Methodist freshman
Mark Jernigan gave the Monarchs an 11-7 lead with a jumper on the assist from senior #A.B. Lehmann#. The Lions scored the next 11 points to take the lead and built up a ten point advantage. Sophomore
Marc Slade helped Methodist cut the lead to one with 4:09 to go in the half, but Piedmont closed the half with an 8-0 run to lead 41-32 at the break.
The Monarchs trailed by five early in the second half, but Piedmont extended the lead to as many as 18 points with 5:54 to go in the game. Methodist kept battling and cut into the lead but the Lions held on for the 93-83 win.
Jernigan led the team with 21 points while Lehmann had 15 and sophomore
Marcus Connor had 12 points and nine boards. Sophomore
Leland Jones added 11.
The Monarchs will play at LaGrange on Sunday at 2 pm.
