GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Methodist men's basketball team traveled to Guilford College Tuesday night for a non-conference game. Ranked third in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, the Quakers took the lead early and never relinquished it as they finished with the 91-72 victory.
Guilford (1-0) scored early on free throws to take the first lead of the game and built an eight point advantage midway through the first half at 21-13. A jumper from Methodist junior
Travis Fulp cut the lead to four with 7:24 to go in the half, but Guilford went on an 11-0 run to take control over the Monarchs (0-2).
The Monarchs kept battling through the second half, but the Quakers controlled the game shooting 58 percent from the field and out rebounding the Monarchs 21-14.
Guilford earned their first win of the season paced by Clay Henson's 22 points while Tyler Sanborn scored 20 points with 16 rebounds.
Sophomore
Mark Jernigan led the Monarchs with 16 points while senior
Eric Thomas scored 11. Freshman
Kyle Combs led the team on the boards with six rebounds.
Methodist will be back on the road this weekend when they face NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University on Saturday at 7 pm.
