BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Methodist trailed Gardner-Webb University by just 10 points at halftime, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half to earn the 83-58 win.

The Monarchs (0-3) shot 9-for-19 (47.4 percent) from the floor during the first half to trail just 36-26 after the first 20 minutes of play against NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University.

The Bulldogs (3-0) went on an early run in the second half to extend their lead to 25 before Methodist chipped away at the deficit. Senior Eric Thomas hit a 3-pointer with 6:42 to go in the game to cut the lead to 12, but that was as close as the Monarchs could get as Gardner-Webb finished with the 83-58 victory.

Sophomore Tanner Carnes led the Monarchs with 12 points and six rebounds. Junior Travis Fulp added 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting from behind the arc.

The Monarchs continue their road trip with a game at Oglethorpe Sunday at 3 p.m.
