Methodist's 117 Points Not Enough in Double Overtime Loss

SALISBURY, Md. - The Methodist men's basketball team was seconds away from picking up their first win of the season twice on Sunday, but it was Ramapo who finished with the 129-117 win in double overtime.

The Monarchs (0-8) trailed early in the game, but had a late run in the first half to move back in contention. Ramapo (5-2) led 33-22 with 8:42 to go in the half when the Monarchs responded with a 17-4 run to take the two point lead on a 3-pointer from junior Travis Fulp. The game was tied at 39, 41 and 43 before Methodist moved ahead 47-43 at the break.

Methodist maintained their lead through most of the second half. Ramapo went ahead 82-81, but the Monarchs regained control. Methodist lead 97-93 with eight seconds to go, but a foul sent the Roadrunners to the line for A.J. LoRusso to know down both attempts. After a Methodist turnover, Andre Kenny scored a layup to send the game to overtime.

The Monarchs jumped out to the 106-99 lead in the first overtime period before Ramapo made a late run. Methodist maintained the 107-104 lead when Kenny scored a layup and hit the free throw after being fouled on the shot to tie the game. Methodist freshman Bruce Patterson gave the Monarchs a two-point cushion after hitting two free throws at other end, but Ramapo's Davian Plunkett tipped in a missed layup for the Roadrunners to send the game to the second overtime.

Ramapo out scored the Monarchs 20-8 during the final period with offensive rebounds sealing the deal. Overall, the Roadrunners out rebounded Methodist 66-44.

Sophomore Tanner Carnes led the Monarchs with 28 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Mark Jernigan and senior Tyler Sigman added 20 points a piece while senior Eric Thomas scored 14 points and freshman Kyle Combs was in double figures with 12 points. Combs, Jernigan and Fulp all had seven boards a piece.

LaQuan Peterkin led the Roadrunners with 39 points and 11 rebounds. Kenny finished with 28 points and Isaiah Lynch scored 22 points.

The Monarchs will take the next two weeks off from competition for exams before traveling to Lynchburg Dec. 18 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
