Strong Second Half Sends Averett Over Monarchs

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Averett University came through with a big second half to pick up the 70-55 win over the Methodist Monarchs.

Both teams exchanged baskets early before the Monarchs took a seven point lead with 10:49 to go in the first half.  Averett came back and tied the game at 17 and 20 but Methodist regained a four point lead.  The Cougars scored the last four points of the half to lead 29-27 at halftime.

Averett opened the second half on a 13-0 run to take control of the game.  Methodist junior Tyler Sigman ended the drought with a layup and the Monarchs closed the gap to 11 points, but the Cougars came back and extended their lead to as many as 22 points.  The Monarchs kept fighting, but Averett finished with the 70-55 win.

Sigman led the Monarchs with 10 points while senior #A.B. Lehmann# had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Monarchs will host N.C. Wesleyan on Monday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 pm in the final regular season home game.
