MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Methodist baseball team traveled back to Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Tuesday to face Catholic University at the Ripken Experience complex. Methodist tied the game at three but lost 8-3.
Catholic took the 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second on three hits. Methodist sophomore
Shawn Lovette led off the fourth with a single to left field and sophomore
Brian Inghram homered to right to cut the Cardinals lead to one.
Senior
Brad Davis tied the game at three with a home run in the top of the sixth, but Catholic came back with two home runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead 5-3. The Cardinals added two unearned runs in the seventh and a run in the eighth to take the 8-3 win.
Lovette and Davis were both 2-for-3 on the day for Methodist. Junior
Kurt Kelly started on the mound for the Monarchs and pitched the first six innings with four strikeouts. Freshman
Michael Mahaffey and junior
Alex Sholar finished in relief.
Moldawer earned the win in eight innings with eight strikeouts for Catholic.
The Monarchs' game at Virginia Wesleyan originally scheduled for Wednesday has been pushed back to Thursday at 3 pm.
