FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Washington and Lee came up with the 2-0 win over the Methodist women's soccer team on Sunday.
The Monarchs battled against the Generals through the first half, but Allie Espina broke through the Methodist defense to give Washington and Lee the 1-0 lead in the 36th minute. Espina struck again in the 55th minute to help the Generals to the 2-0 win.
The Monarchs had six shots in the game, but Washington and Lee's Emily Leary made three saves to preserve the shutout. Methodist's
Kasey Nichols had four saves for the Monarchs.
Methodist will host Guilford on Wednesday in a non-conference game.
