ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - After N.C. Wesleyan took a 24-point lead in the second half, the Monarchs chipped away at the Bishops to move within 12, but the rally came up short. N.C. Wesleyan finished with the 84-71 victory.

Early in the second half, N.C. Wesleyan (7-9, 3-1) went ahead 66-42, but the Monarchs (0-14, 0-3) fought back to move within 12 on a 3-pointer from sophomore Mark Jernigan. Methodist could not close the gap as N.C. Wesleyan held on for the win.

During the final two minutes of the first half freshman Matthew Snowberger hit a jumper to cut the lead to six, but the Bishops scored the final five points of the period to hold the 41-30 lead.

Sophomore Tanner Carnes led the Monarchs with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Tyler Sigman added 17 points.

The Bishops had four players in double figures led by Trey Drake with 19 points.

Methodist will host Washington & Lee on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
