NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Nationally ranked Christopher Newport University jumped out early over the Methodist women's basketball team and finished with the 86-60 win.
The Captains (16-0, 9-0) took the 25-15 lead midway through the first half before extending their lead to as many as 25 points. Methodist (9-8, 5-5) scored 11 straight points to cut the lead to 14 before Christopher Newport took the 44-26 lead at halftime.
Methodist stepped it up in the second half, but the Captains prevailed with the 86-60 win to remain undefeated on the season.
Senior
Dezzire Gilliard and sophomore
Jackie Lyles finished with 15 points a piece for the Monarchs. Senior
Michaela Myers added 10 points. Gilliard had eight rebounds.
Chelsie Schweers paced the Captains with 40 points.
The Monarchs will travel to Meredith on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
