FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's basketball team's hard work paid off on Friday night with a 98-70 win over Greensboro College to pick up a big USA South conference victory.

The Monarchs built a 13-point lead in the first half, but really took control in the second half. Methodist (1-17, 1-5) had taken the lead in five previous games at halftime, but the team knew they had to keep the momentum going into the second half. Methodist senior Tyler Sigman made sure of it scoring 29 points including six three-pointers all in the second half.

Methodist scored four consecutive 3-pointers to jump ahead 62-35 with 14:17 to go in the game. A free throw from sophomore Mark Jernigan gave the Monarchs their largest lead of the game at 89-54 with 3:53 remaining. The Monarchs kept up the high-power offense to finish with the 98-70 victory.

It was all Monarchs in the first half as they jumped out to the 10-2 lead and took the 39-26 lead at the break after a layup from Sigman.

Sigman finished with a career-high 39 points on 15-for-16 shooting from the field. Jernigan and sophomore Tanner Carnes added 17 points a piece for the Monarchs that finished shooting 58 percent from the floor.

Chakiris Moss led the Pride with 19 points and seven rebounds.

The Monarchs will look to build on the win when they host Ferrum on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
