FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team took the 11-9 lead five minutes into the game and never relinquished it as they went on to prevail 60-44 over Greensboro College.
Greensboro (6-10, 4-7) led 9-6 early, but Methodist (11-8, 7-5went on a 14-2 run to lead 20-11 midway through the half. Methodist senior
Dezzire Gilliard closed out the half with a layup on the fast break and drew the foul with 0.8 seconds on the clock. Gilliard's free throw gave Methodist the 30-19 lead at halftime.
The Monarchs kept up the pressure in the second half extending their lead to 20 with 4:31 to go in the game. The team led by as many as 21 before finishing with the 60-44 win.
Gilliard finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Monarchs. Senior
Michaela Myers also scored 14 points while freshman
Jackie Lyles added 11 points.
Nikki Wilborn paced the Pride with 14 points.
Methodist will host Ferrum on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
