FERRUM, Va. - Ferrum used a 12-0 start to knock off the Monarchs 75-58 in their first USA South Athletic Conference game of the season.
The Panthers (7-7, 1-1) scored the first 12 points of the game before Methodist sophomore
Tanner Carnes put the Monarchs (0-11, 0-1) on the board with a layup. Methodist moved within nine points with less than nine minutes to go in the half, but Ferrum held the 43-23 lead at the break.
The Monarchs cut the lead to nine on three different occasions in the second half. With 9:11 to go, senior
Tyler Sigman capped off a three-point play with a free throw after a quick layup. Ferrum led 57-48 before using a late 13-3 run to put the game out of reach for Methodist. They finished with the 75-58 win.
Carnes led the Monarchs with 18 points while Sigman added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Jerrell Wade paced the Panthers with 19 points.
The Monarchs will host Averett on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
