FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - In what looked like a repeat of last year's USA South Women's Soccer Tournament championship, Methodist took the 1-0 lead, but Christopher Newport came back to win 2-1.
Methodist out shot the Captains 3-1 in the first half, but neither team scored. Methodist's
Lauren Colenda beat the defense on the right side and found the back of the net to give the Monarchs the 1-0 lead in the 60th minute.
Less than four minutes later, Christopher Newport came back and tied the game with a goal from Sam Ciaravino. With less than 10 minutes to play, the Captains capitalized on a deflection to score the go ahead goal and finish with the 2-1 win.
Methodist goalkeeper
Kasey Nichols finished with five saves and Meghan Gumbs had four stops for the Captains.
The Monarchs will be back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they host N.C. Wesleyan.
