RADFORD, Va. - The Methodist men's basketball team traveled to NCAA Division I Radford University on Sunday. The game served as an exhibition for the Monarchs, the final tune-up before the season opener on Wednesday.
The Highlanders jumped out to the 8-2 lead early, but Methodist went on a 14-5 run to take the lead with 12:19 to play in the first half. The lead changed four times during the half before Radford took a 35-29 lead into the locker room at the break.
Radford built a 10 point lead during the second half, but the Monarchs rallied once again to cut the lead to two on a three-pointer from
Kyle Combs with 3:02 remaining. Methodist was unable to close the gap and with the Monarchs forced to foul down the stretch, the Highlanders finished with the 83-74 win.
Combs paced the team with 16 points while
Tanner Carnes added 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Mark Jernigan was also in double figures with 11 points.
Radford finished with six players in double figures and out rebounded Methodist 54-37 for their second win of the season.
Methodist will host Guilford on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the first official game of the season.
