FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a 64-43 win over Salem College on Monday night.

The Monarchs led 14-12 with 14:13 left to play in the first half before opening up an 11-1 run to take a commanding lead. Methodist never looked back as they cruised to the 39-19 lead at halftime on a buzzer beater 3-point basket by Emily Huneycutt.

Dawn Sanderson opened the Monarchs' scoring in the second half with a layup followed by a steal and another layup to extend the lead to 24 points. Methodist led by as many as 27 points before finishing with the 64-43 win.

Jackie Lyles paced the team with 14 points and eight rebounds. Huneycutt and Sanderson added 11 points a piece.

Kelsey Rector and LaSashia Connelly led Salem with 13 points a piece.

Methodist will be back in action this weekend at the Emory & Henry Tip-Off Classic.
