HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Methodist used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to tie the game at 49, but Hampden-Sydney rallied to finish with the 75-64 win in the first game of the Roundball Club Tip-Off Tournament.
Methodist (0-2) opened up a 16-6 lead early in the first half before the Tigers came back with a 15-0 run to take the lead with 8:32 left to play in the first half. Hampden-Sydney (1-0) led by as many as 10 during the period and took a 35-26 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Tigers opened up their lead to 11 points early in the second half, but Methodist went on a 9-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer from
Josh Hayes to tie the game at 49 with 8:47 on the clock. Hampden-Sydney came right back with a 15-1 run to take control of the game and finish with the 75-64 win.
Tanner Carnes led the team with 17 points and five rebounds.
James Whitehead added 12 points while Hayes finished with 10.
Bryan Hockaday paced the team on the boards with six.
Methodist will be back in action on Saturday when they play in the consolation game of the tournament at 2 p.m.
