Meredith Comes Back to Knock Off Monarchs

Lisa Paschal scored two goals for Methodist

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team was less than six minutes away from upsetting second seeded Meredith College, but the Angels scored two late goals to win 3-2.

Meredith took the early lead in the 22nd minute with a goal by Danielle Lee. Methodist freshman Lisa Paschal tied the game at one in the 37th minute. Meredith narrowly edged the Monarchs 7-6 in shots during the first half, but Paschal scored her second goal of the game in the 66th minute to put Methodist ahead 2-1.

With less than six minutes to play, Meredith's Carrie Talbert tied the game and Eliza Evans scored the game-winning goal with 1:06 remaining to help the Angels advance to the USA South Tournament Semifinal.

Kasey Nichols had three saves for Methodist while Kelsey Hopper made seven stops for Meredtih. The Monarchs finished with nine shots on goal compared to the Angels' six.

The Monarchs finish the 2010 season 11-7-1 overall while Meredith advances to face Averett on Friday.
