FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist closed the gap to five points midway through the second half, but Lynchburg ran away with it late and finished with the 80-65 win.
The Monarchs (0-4) started out strong in the first half opening a 10-6 lead and held the 13-10 advantage before the game was tied at 16. The Hornets (2-2) broke open a 13 point lead before finishing with the 42-31 lead at halftime.
Lynchburg scored the first basket of the second half, but Methodist rallied with a 9-2 run midway through the period to close the gap to five after a steal and layup by
Marc Slade. The Hornets responded with a run of their own to take control at 71-54 and finish with the 80-65 win.
Tanner Carnes led the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Mark Jernigan added 13 points. Lynchburg out rebounded the Monarchs 39-34.
Methodist will be back in action on Sunday when they host Virginia Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
