BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Methodist men's basketball team jumped out to the early 8-0 lead over Huntingdon on Friday night, but the Hawks rallied to knock off the Monarchs 88-80.
In the first two minutes, Methodist scored eight quick points to take control early. Huntingdon chipped away at the lead before taking the 13-12 advantage on free throws with 12:18 remaining in the first half. Both teams exchanged baskets before the Hawks built a nine point lead with a little more than five minutes to play. Methodist rallied to cut the lead to two at halftime trailing just 39-37.
Huntingdon never led by more than nine in the second half and Methodist briefly took the lead at 42-41, but the Hawks held on for the 88-80 victory.
Bryan Hockaday led Methodist with 19 points while
Josh Hayes added 15 points.
Tanner Carnes was also in double figures with 10 points.
Methodist will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Covenant at 2 p.m.
