FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - It was a tight first half, but N.C. Wesleyan pulled away in the second half to win 93-63 over the Methodist men's basketball team.
N.C. Wesleyan (13-9, 9-1) took the early lead but Methodist sophomore
Mark Jernigan tied the game at nine with 15:20 to play. The Bishops moved ahead 33-21, but the Monarchs chipped away at the lead to move within four points with less than four minutes remaining in the half. N.C. Wesleyan scored the final two baskets before the break to lead 39-31 at the end of the first half.
The Bishops opened the second half on a 12-0 run to build a 20 point advantage over the Monarchs (2-20, 2-7). N.C. Wesleyan controlled the remainder of the game finishing with the 93-63 win.
The Monarchs had 13 different players put points on the board with freshman
Blake Lanier pacing the team with 11 points. Jernigan added nine.
Trey Drake led the Bishops with 19 points.
Methodist will travel to Greensboro on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
