FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team bounced back from a loss on Sunday to earn the 16-3 win over Penn State-Abington on Monday.
The Nittany Lions (1-5) took an early 1-0 lead on an unearned run, but the Monarchs (11-5) came right back with four runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.
Tripp Lancaster sparked the rally and scored on a triple from
Brian Inghram.
Trey Such scored Inghram on a RBI single and
Matt Quick finished up with a two-RBI double to left.
Tyler Younger hit his first collegiate home run over the left field fence in the third to extend the lead to 5-1. Methodist rattled off five more hits in the fourth to score five runs. Two additional runs in the fifth on a triple from Lancaster and a sacrifice fly from Inghram gave the Monarchs the 12-1 lead.
Penn State-Abington scored a run in the seventh and ninth, but four runs in the eighth from Methodist sealed the game.
Lancaster finished 4-for-4 at the plate with a RBI and Younger finished 3-for-3 with a RBI. Such went 3-for-4 and
Shawn Lovette was 3-for-6.
Brian Goodwin and Quick also finished with two hits a piece.
Hunter Ennis pitched seven innings scattering six hits with five strikeouts for the win.
David Christoffersen and
Reid Berry each pitched an inning of relief.
The Monarchs will travel to Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow (Tues.) for a 3 p.m. start.
