BURLINGTON, N.C. - Top seeded Christopher Newport cruised to the early lead over No. 4 Ferrum in the first game of the USA South Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
The Captains opened up with a 14-0 lead dominating over the Panthers in the first half. Ferrum's Brook Hewartson scored with 3:47 to go in the half avoiding the shutout. Christopher Newport held a 33-6 shot advantage over the Panthers as they finished with the 20-2 win.
Kaitlin Quigley led the Captains with five goals and three assists. Rachel Tomlinson and Becca Geist had four goals a piece.
Hewartson scored both goals for Ferrum.
Christopher Newport advances to the championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the winner of No. 2 Greensboro and No. 3 Shenandoah.
