FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team picked up their sixth win of the season and second of the weekend after shutting out Piedmont College 2-0.
Piedmont thought they took the lead when they scored in the 18th minute of play, but the goal was called back with a player ruled offsides and the Monarchs countered with a goal at the other end to take the 1-0 lead.
Lisa Paschal crossed the ball from the right side into the center of the 18-yard box for
Brooke Corley to head it past Piedmont's goalkeeper Kaitlyn Induni.
Methodist maintained their 1-0 lead into the second half before Paschal scored a goal of her own in the 60th minute after breaking free of the defense and shooting to the right side of the goal.
Induni finished with eight saves for Piedmont while
Kasey Nichols made four stops for the Monarchs.
Methodist will kick off USA South action next weekend when they host Shenandoah on Saturday at 2 p.m.
