FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team wrapped up a successful first week with their third straight win after shutting out Agnes Scott 4-0.
The first half nearly ended scoreless before Methodist's
Jillian Reed broke through the defense with a goal. Her first shot was saved, but Reed collected the rebound to give the Monarchs the 1-0 lead just before halftime.
In the 75th minute, Reed scored her second goal after receiving a pass from
Lauren Colenda. The Monarchs cushioned their lead with two goals in the final five minutes from
Marissa Kuzbyt and Colenda.
Danielle Minichello added an assist on the final goal.
Sara Altman and
Kasey Nichols combined to give Methodist their first shutout of the season with three saves. Mary-Kate Laird had five stops for the Scotties.
The Monarchs will take the road this weekend for two games at Washington and Lee University.
