LEXINGTON, Va. - Methodist battled back from a 20 point deficit to cut the gap to 11 points, but Washington and Lee held on for the 75-62 win.
The Monarchs jumped out to the quick 7-0 lead before the Generals responded with their first lead of the game at 13-12 with 14:16 to play in the first half. Washington and Lee held the 23-19 advantage before closing the half on an 18-7 run to hold the 15 point lead at halftime.
Methodist trailed by 20 points with 17:05 to play before calling a 30 second timeout. The Monarchs started to chip away at the lead before
James Whitehead drained a 3-pointer with 3:04 to play to cut the lead to 11 points. Washington and Lee responded to finish with the 75-62 win.
Methodist freshman
Bryan Hockaday led the team with 20 points and seven rebounds while
Mark Jernigan added 13 points.
Washington and Lee finished with four players in double figures paced by Kevin Gill with 13 points.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Monday when they take on Wells College at 4 p.m.
