GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Methodist men's basketball team had a late rally to take the lead with 6:14 to play in the game, but the Pride regained the lead and prevailed with the 73-68 win.
The game was tied at 12 early, but Greensboro took the 20-14 lead with 10:13 left in the first half. The Pride closed the first period on a 6-0 run to lead 39-28.
The Monarchs came back with a 6-0 run of their own to open the second half and move within five points. With 13:00 on the clock, Greensboro led 50-38, but Methodist came back and tied the game at 52.
Kyle Combs hit two free throws to give Methodist the 58-57 lead. Greensboro held the 67-63 lead with 1:47 remaining and went up 71-63 with less than a minute to play.
Mark Jernigan scored the layup and scored the traditional 3-point play to cut the lead to three points with 27 seconds on the clock, but Greensboro held on for the 73-68 win.
Jernigan led the team with 17 points while
Bryan Hockaday scored 16 points and
Josh Hayes added 13 points. Combs finished with a team-high 12 rebounds.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Ferrum for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
